Corny’s First Bike Race August 23, 2009

My New Years resolution was to race a bike.  I’ve been going out to see bike races for several years and I have never stepped up and raced in one.  I say it every year that this will be the year I ride a race.  2009 was that year.  Today I raced in the Beginner’s race for the Grant Park Criterium.  What an incredible experience.  It was fun to ride and it was a fast (for me at least) race.  I’m glad to have done it.  Up next during Labor Day weekend will be my first century (100 miles) during the MACC One Love Century ride.  I just have to ride a cyclocross race and my racing is complete for the year and maybe for a while since the twins are coming.

Breakfast Tacos

The past 2 weekends I have made breakfast tacos for us.  It’s one of the few things that I cook that Hilary will eat.  It’s pretty easy to make.  I discovered it when I was hungry and tired and needed something to eat.  So I just used what was available.  It was a great discovery.  And now we are considering “Short Order Cook Dadurdays” where I cook for the family.  Probably breakfast tacos but the menu could expand.

30 Weeks and 2 Days

Here’s the latest belly picture of Hilary.  We are at 30 weeks and 2 days today.  Yesterday we went to a child birthing class at DeKalb Medical Center.  We left more informed on what to expect among other things that we learned during the all day class.  The kids could not stop moving around all day and night yesterday.

Tonight the kids had Indian food and they are jumping around because of all the spices.

FYI: I’m trying out a new camera.  It was the gift I had picked out for my 10 year anniversary working for BellSouth/AT&T.  The camera sucks and so the picture sucks also.

Man Day Recap at Ink and Dagger Tattoo

Man Day came and went at Ink and Dagger Tattoo in Decatur.  I went there to support Decatur’s local business, maybe get a tattoo (already have 2 from them), and eat in a wing eating contest.  Two out of three isn’t bad.  I came in second place.  The wings were provided by Fox Bros which was a great smoky treat.  Then the wings were covered in a super hot sauce spice concoction.  10 people started and 4 remained when the first one of us finished all 20 wings.

Thanks to Russ and the crew at Ink and Dagger for putting on a great event.  A great crowd came out to enjoy the festivities, games, and circus sideshow acts courtesy of Capt. Stab Tuggo.  I have a year to prepare.  I’ve always wanted to eat in a eating contest.  I can now mark it off my “To Do” list.

28 Weeks and 5 Days August 12, 2009

We went for a check-up today.  Sofy is 3.2 lbs and is in the 78th percentile for weight.  Dirk is 3.5 lbs and is in the 80th percentile.  Mommy is doing well.  We have one ultrasound picture of Sofy’s profile.  She’s the cute photogenic one.  We can also see her peach fuzz hair.  Dirk is curled up in the fetal position and facing backwards so the nurse couldn’t get a good picture of him.

On the way to the doctor, I put my headphones on Hil’s belly and played punk music for the kids.  They seemed to like it because they were moving, kicking, and punching to the music.  I’m so glad they like punk.

David Byrne Bike for Sale August 11, 2009

Through 2 links previous to this one I found out that David Byrne is selling his bike with the proceeds benefitting the London Cycling Campaign.  From David Byrne’s blog:

The book I wrote over the last couple of years (though the notes for it date back as far as 15 years) came out in the UK this week. I decided that since I am finishing my tour here, the UK publisher (Faber and Faber) and I would auction off the bike that I rode around many of the cities featured in the book — Sydney, Istanbul, Berlin, Columbus, and London. The proceeds will benefit the London Cycling Campaign as the bike is located there — which means that the auction is really geared towards UK bidders.

OK here’s why I posted the blog and the picture.  If you examine the top tube of his bike you will see very prominently displayed the Philippine flag.  That’s just too cool.
